This is my first full render using Krita. This gallery shows my process going from the end product to the initial idea. This was a great opportunity to learn about Krita, constantly testing, trying, failing, and exploring the program. Some noteworthy lessons include:
- Most Important: For me, fully establishing construction traditionally before digital is extremely important. Being lax on the structure beforehand has led to failure because I lose the bigger picture when working digitally. So, nail in a confident construction traditionally first (for me).
- The colorize tool.
- Splitting colorized layers into sub-layers for coloring specific parts
- Shading with multiply.
- Palette selection.
- Keeping sketch fidelity low, just enough to hammer everything out for the ink layer.
- Different kinds of brushes and how they affect a drawing.
- ROTATE THE CANVAS! This saved so much time.
- Don’t get too obsessed- I tried to limit my drawing sessions to reasonable lengths so I wouldn’t get too flustered or overwhelmed. I may talk about this more in a future blog post.
